THOUSANDS of mobile phone subscribers of Globe Telecom Incorporated are complaining about the poor communication signal felt in Cagayan de Oro and throughout Mindanao in the last three days.
Officials of Globe Telecom have chosen however, to remain silent on the technology glitch experienced by the mobile network.
A furious Vice Mayor Vicente Emano expressed disgust over the failure of Globe officials to inform the public about the problem.
"Ang tawo dili angay maperwisyo, 100 percent of the people in the world nag-agad sa cellphone (The people should not be inconvenienced. 100 percent of the people in the world depend on the cellphone)," Emano said over radio station dxIF.
Emano said Globe subscribers are complaining of not being able to call, send or receive Short Message Service (SMS) or texts.
Some lucky Globe subscribers found they can avail of unlimited calls-much to their delight.
Other Globe subscribers have resorted to transferring to the other mobile companies.
"Kinahanglan ang Globe magpahibalo (Globe should inform the public)," Emano said.
Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro tried to reach officials of Globe Telecoms Cagayan de Oro but none return to our inquiries.
A security guard said all communications will come from their Manila office. Their local office will not be issuing any statements.
Director Teodoro Buenavista, head of the National Telecommunications Commission in Northern Mindanao said the technical problem that beset Globe network was traced to their facility in Batangas.
He said fiber optics wires at the facility were damaged after unidentified persons tried to cut and steal the telecommunication wires.
Buenavista said the Globe facility in Batangas connects the entire region of Visayas and Mindanao Island.
He said the entire Zamboanga peninsula including the provinces of Zamboanga de Sibugay, Zamboanga del Norte and Zamboanga, have no communication signal at all.
Globe subscribers in Davao are also experiencing some interference when they used their mobile phones, Buenavista said.
