ILIGAN CITY -- Weeklong rains have triggered floods drowning six persons after rampaging waters submerged a hinterland barangay in Salvador town, Lanao del Norte Tuesday night, disaster officials said.
Another person is reported missing, according to sketchy reports reaching the Lanao del Norte provincial disaster coordinating council.
The village was not identified in the report sent by Salvador town disaster council.
Armando Edroso team leader of Iligan City Disaster Coordinating Center said they are closely monitoring Zone Saturn in barangay Suarez where a kilometer of crack was spotted at the nearby hills.
Suarez barangay Chair Erlito Dalangin said they had warned residents living beside hills about the crack.
"Water is flowing from the hillside. It could soften the soil foundation," Dalanding said.
Elsewhere, the Office of Civil Defense in Manila reported that the floods across Eastern Samar have left 13 people dead, three missing and thousands of people were forced to seek higher grounds.
