Gov't scribes reaching out to DSWD kids

THIRTY toddlers and infants referred at the Rehabilitation and Study Center for Children of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Western Mindanao received last February 29 gift packs from the members of the Regional Association of Government Communicators (Ragcom) of Western Mindanao.

As a way of reaching out to the most vulnerable individuals in the society, RAGCOM members gave packs that include pairs of flip-flops, shampoo, soap, diapers, milk and snacks that brought gleam to the faces of the children. The group also spent time in visiting the babies at the RSCC nursery where they cuddled them as their way of showing their love and sympathy to the infants.

"The babies and the toddlers here need to be cuddled by people once in a while, to let them know that they are cared and loved," said Monavic Bodiongan, the Center Head of RSCC. These children were mostly abandoned and neglected leaving a blurry future for them. The act of time and touch the RAGCOM members has shared has given these children a sense of belongingness and love.

Ragcom president Engineer Noli de la Rita of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said that these children should not only be given special attention on Christmas seasons but should be given attention the whole year round. "Ragcom saw this angle and we are hoping that we could somehow touch the lives of these children in a different way."

DSWD is also calling those who have hearts for these children to support them. "Just the mere presence of visitors bring delight to the RSCC children," said Bodiongan. "We just hope that there are still more people out there like the Ragcom members."
