Saturday, April 12, 2008 'Illegal recruiter' nabbed
THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Northern Mindanao arrested a branch manager of a consultancy firm in an entrapment operation after he was accused for illegal recruitment.
Enie Cabasag, a native of Balingasag, Misamis Oriental and the branch manager of Gemsworld Consultancy located at Pabayo-Pacana Sts., Cagayan de Oro City was arrested at 11:30 a.m. Friday in an establishment along Velez St.
Taken from his position during his arrest is the P5,000 used as marked money and two units of cellphone.
The suspect showed refusal for an interview and pretended to be asleep inside NBI's mini cell after several attempts of Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro to wake him up.
Cabasag's victim, Catherine Taytay, a resident of Balingasag town, Misamis Oriental went to the NBI office to seek assistance after she was allegedly swindled by the suspect, who was also believed as gay.
Taytay lodge complains at the NBI office, saying she has already gave Cabasag the initial payments for the processing fee of the requirements abroad amounting to P25,000.
Gerry Tamayo, NBI's Special Agent said, an entrapment operation was then set out with the victim's cooperation as she was set to pay Cabasag another payments in the amount of P5,000.
Tamayo revealed that aside from Taytay, there were other three complainants who vowed to file their complaints against Cabasag. The suspect will be facing estafa/swindling and large-scale illegal recruitment with no bail bond recommended.
In an investigation, it was learned that Cabasag's modus operandi is to demand money from his victim in the amount of P2,500 as medical charges.
"Mosulti dayon siya nga umabotay na ang employer ug mag-interview na sa Casa Crystalla pero walay interview nga mahitabo," disclosed the victim who requested for anonymity.
She is supposed to go abroad particularly in Italy as factory worker along with her husband, but luckily they double check Cabasag's activity.
Tamayo said they are expecting more complainants to file charges against the suspect in the next few days.
