The 20-year-olds hold the distinction of being the first twin brothers who shared the top honors and Summa Cum Laude at the same graduation year in the University.
"Ever since our elementary days, we were always pushed by our parents to study for the next day's quiz," Ron Lorenzo said.
Lean Rando and Ron Lorenzon graduated in Accountancy under the University's College of Business and Accountancy.
Their parents, Lorimer S. Capinpuyan Sr., head of comptroller of Liceo de Cagayan University and mother, Ruth, an employee of the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation regional office are extremely proud of them.
When Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro interviewed the twins in their house in Terryhills Subdivision at Barangay Bulua, the brothers were busy preparing for their review for the Certified Public Accountancy Board exam in Manila.
We found the brothers are not just twins physically but twins in character.
"We share the same interests but we do not have the same crushes," Lean Rando said.
However, the two admit that sometimes they are mistaken for the other by newly found and not-so-close acquaintances.
"Pero kung kami ra barkada, di na gyud sila masayop kung hain sa amo ang ila gitawag (But our close friends recognized us)," Lean Rando says.
One of the pastimes they share is playing video arcade games at the mall like Street Fighter.
Lorimer, their father, said his two sons have excelled since their Vita Christi School elementary days at Terryhills Subdivision until high school when they transferred to Liceo de Cagayan University. Lean Rando was the salutatorian, while Ron Lorenzo graduated as honor student.
It was Ron Lorenzo who took Accountancy first but he told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro that he enrolled not to follow his father's footsteps. Ron Lorenzo said he took Accountancy because he does not like to take up nursing.
"At the time, the whole family was pondering to enroll me in nursing but I don't like it. And the next competitive offering at Liceo is accountancy," Ron Lorenzo said.
Lean Rando took a different route and took up the course of electronics and communications engineering (ECE).
But after a semester, Lean Rando said he learned that the ECE department in Liceo was not as competitive as he expected it to be.
He said he tried to seek permission from his father to transfer to Mindanao Polytechnic State College (MPSC) but it was refused. Lean Rando shifted to BS Accountancy.
That is when their hardwork began for the top honors. The brothers did endless library work and the waking-up of 4 a.m. just to study for the quiz a few hours after.
On top of that, the Capinpuyan brothers were busy in their extra-curricular activities. The two were members of the Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA) and the Liceo de Cagayan University oratory debating team.
All their efforts finally paid off when they walked to the stage last March garnering not just the top honors but also the Philippine Association of Collegiate Schools of Business excellence medal.
