Capillas: Ends of the Earth
By Stephen Capillas
Galley Proof

WHILE it's easy for the City Government to simply drive out the vendors and all others doing business in the city streets and areas outside of the allotted spaces in Cagayan de Oro's markets the problem would never be resolved unless both parties cooperate.

Complaints of how certain law enforcers drive out vendors by destroying their merchandise and produce and pocketing some of them in the process has led the public to believe the current administration doesn't have a holistic solution to this perennial problem.

Arroyo Watch: Sun.Star blog on President Arroyo

Once and for all the vendors must be made to understand where and when they have to sell their produce without aggravating the convenience of the commuters and the riding public. While they have the right to earn, they don't have the right to impose their presence on areas that restrict the movement of city residents.

Looked over at Yahoo! and saw their list of causes for End of the Earth scenarios, which got drawn up as part of the Earth Day celebration scheduled today and I must say, this planet is certainly unsafe for anyone whether human, animal, alien or microbe.

From zombies to robots to viruses, asteroids and even mutated rabbits, the cause for global ending destruction is as diverse as the many ice cream flavors being sold in the market today. And you don't even need Soylet Green to remind you that the world is heading towards hell in a waste basket as the doomsayers are fond to remind you.

Which is why greenhouses gases causing global warming may not be the lone culprit as environmental groups are wont to be believe and preach to a nervous public already overburdened with rising food prices and the chicanery of corrupt government officials. And no amount of An Inconvenient Truth will convince people otherwise.

At any rate, whether it be any of these above-mentioned causes the certainty that humanity may have a hand in its own destruction is strong and while that may be the case it is also up to humanity to arrest that slide to destruction and rescue themselves from its very brink.
