Rotary West CdeO honors top public school teachers

AFTER another grueling yet successful roundup in public schools in Northern Mindanao, the Rotary Club of West Cagayan de Oro will announce and award today the winners of this year's search for most outstanding public school teachers award (Mopsta).

Mopsta search committee chairman and Rotary Club West CdeO past president Adrian C. Pabayo, president Adi R. Co together with Department of Education (DepEd) officials will lead the awarding ceremony at the DepEd Regional Education Learning Center (RELC) in Barangay Lapasan, Cagayan de Oro City.

Vying for this year's top awards are finalists: Anita M. Gomez, grade II teacher from Bongbongon Elementary School, North II District, Cagayan de Oro; Annabelle J. Lariba, grade II teacher from Bugo Central School, East II District, Cagayan de Oro; Sarah M. Mancao, 4th year high school teacher of Alae National High School, Alae, Division of Bukidnon; Elsie R. Pelaez, EPP grade VI teacher of City Central School, Central Disrict, Cagayan de Oro and Romela S. Pelobello, grade III teacher of Bacusanon Elementary School in Pangantucan town in Bukidnon.

The winners and semi-finalists will receive cash awards and trophies totaling over a hundred thousand pesos from its sponsors. The MOPSTA winner's school will also receive a computer set with printer.

This annual search is supported by the Heirs of the Late Justiniano R. Borja thru the Gigi Borja Endowment Fund represented by chairman Justice Romulo Valdehueza-Borja, Ms. Cecilia Borja-Chiongbian and Ms.Christine Borja-Sagarbarria; SOTELCO thru past district governor Narciso "Jun" Nolasco and Rtn. Lutt Nolasco, Rotarian Emmanuel D. Abellanosa and family, HP Computers/Globalchips Technologies, Inc. thru Rotarian William Y. Malagar, RC West Foundation, Inc., past district governor Jose N. Nebrao, Rtn. Denvi T. Cabrera, Rtn. Rodilla D. Gaylo, RC West past president Adrian C. Pabayo, incoming president Armando A. Tarayao, past president Eileen E. San Juan and president Adrian R. Co.

Mopsta is a flagship project of the Rotary Club of West Cagayan de Oro under Vocational Service, one of Rotary's avenues of service. Vocational Service is the way Rotary fosters, supports and recognizes the worthiness to society of all useful occupations.

The search aims to recognize the accomplishments of public elementary and secondary school teachers in the delivery of quality basic education, aims to encourage teachers to continue improving their competencies and identify educational models to other teachers.

Mopsta is open to public classroom teachers of Northern Mindanao in the elementary and secondary levels with at least three successive years in teaching. It has been running annually for more than 10 years now. (Press release)
