EDUCATION via the cyberspace will be right at the fingertips of secondary students in the city's public schools.
This, after the City Council en banc recently authorized Mayor Constantino Jaraula to enter into a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the City Schools Division of Cagayan de Oro and Ayala Foundation, Inc. for the implementation of the Gearing Up Internet Literacy and Access for Students (GILAS) project in the city.
The councilors likewise allocated funds from the Local School Board budget as the city's counterpart fund for GILAS.
Under the program, the city shall provide a counterpart fund of P1.1 million for the purchase of computers and the needed equipment for Internet facility in six high schools.
Ayala Foundation shall provide P3 million for the purchase of computers, networking, local area network (LAN) peripherals, training and monitoring and evaluation for 17 schools as well as the cost for Internet connections in these schools.
It shall likewise facilitate the provision of technical assistance to the schools for a period of one year.
For its part, the City Schools Division shall assist Ayala Foundation in mobilizing the local community for assessing and monitoring the project and its efficiency.
The project aims to improve the performance of the students in public schools through access to the rich resources of the information highway. (Press release)
