Wednesday, July 09, 2008 Corpus athletes to skip `08 Cosaa meet
CONSIDERED as the school of champions, Corpus Christi will be sorely missed as the annual Cagayan de Oro Sports Athletic Association gets to unveil its 2008 edition.
The Corpus Christi Knights, who dominated the Cosaa action last year, will compete instead in the long-surviving Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) meet.
"Sayang kay kami ang defending champion sa Cosaa ug Loyola Cup. But our school director (referring to Dr. Alfonso del Fierro) has decided to pick just one for us to represent in the Palaro games," said Albert "Dodo" Bernados, coach of Corpus Christi junior basketball team.
Bernados also revealed that his 12-year-old prize find in 6-foot-3 tall Christian John Lim will no longer be around comes the Prisaa games. Lim will now be strutting wares for San Beda high school. "Dako kaayo ang nawala sa among team kay gikuha siya (Lim) sa Manila. But still maningkamot lang gihapon `mi," added Bernados.
Survivors of the Prisaa and the Cosaa meets as well as the top qualifiers from the public district meet will duel it out in the City Triangular Meet. The winners will then compose COAA (Cagayan de Oro Athletic Association) team in the Palarong Pampook, the last qualifying stage in Region 10 for the much-awaited Palarong Pambansa. (LLS)
