Arroyo ratings all time low

PRESIDENT Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's satisfaction rating fell to a record low, making it the least popular administration since Presidents Cory Aquino, Fidel Ramos, and Joseph Estrada, according to a new survey released by the Social Weather Stations (SWS).

The survey made between June 27 to 30, said that Arroyo suffered a record-low--negative 21--satisfaction rating and has been declining for 3 consecutive quarters since September 2007, when it was a neutral +9.

According to the SWS, past administrations also had negative ratings at certain times.

In November 1990, the Aquino administration received its lowest net satisfaction rating of -10.

In October 1995, the Ramos administration obtained its worst low of net -18.

During Estrada's term, the lowest net satisfaction rating was net -8 in December 1999.

The survey said Arroyo net satisfaction rating even fell by 18 points in the Visayas, where she garnered most votes in the 2004 presidential elections.

It fell from net -8 (36 percent satisfied, 44 percent dissatisfied) in March to -26 (26 percent satisfied, 52 percent dissatisfied) in June, a new record-low for that area.

In Mindanao, it fell by 6 points, from -17 (28 percent satisfied, 45 percent dissatisfied, correctly rounded) to -23 (27 percent satisfied, 50 percent dissatisfied).

Surprisingly, Arroyo's satisfaction rating rose by 5 points in Metro Manila, from -32 (25 percent satisfied, 57 percent dissatisfied) to -27 (27 percent satisfied, 54 percent dissatisfied), according to SWS who published the results of the survey in its website, www.sws.org.ph.

Protest actions staged by militant groups across the country greeted the State of the Nation Address (Sona) of President Arroyo Monday afternoon.

Here in Cagayan de Oro, calls for Arroyo to step down reverberated in the city streets as 900 activists belonging to the Bagong Alyansa Makabayan marched from the capitol grounds to the Amphitheater Monday.

Chanting "Papet, pasista, pahirap sa masa. Patalsikin si Gloria!" (Puppet, fascist and burden of the masses. Oust Gloria) the militants staged a theatrical skit depicting a witch cooking "anti-people" laws, which they say, is the real economic situation of the country.
