Wednesday, July 30, 2008 Meet Miss Kagay-an 2008 candidate Sybil Sarte By Mark D. Francisco
THIS year's Candidate No. 1 for Miss Kagay-an is 18-year-old Sybil Sarte, a former youth councilor.
Nope, it's not the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) kind, it's the one sponsored by the Rotary... and youth (who are mostly high schoolers) get to sit in as city officials with their real counterparts for a week.
Sarte, who is now a sophomore nursing student at Capitol University, had done her part as youth councilor in 2006.
She was exposed to the day-to-day duties of a City Government official and part of that experience made her try out for the Miss Kagay-an 2008 auditions held earlier this month.
That attempt really paid off and members of the screening committee were right in selecting her as one of the 15 candidates.
Sarte was also one of the finalists for the Miss Teen Philippines -- Northern and Western Mindanao in 2006.
Up close and personal, she looks unassuming but believe me, Sybil is not your ordinary Kagay-anon.
Her dad is half-Filipino and a quarter Chinese and Spanish; her mother is of Portuguese descent.
Sybil counts painting, swimming, writing and obviously being a linguist as her hobbies. She even plays basketball occasionally.
She also loves watching Discovery Channel and National Geographic a lot that one friend even had the guts to call her a genius.
A genius perhaps but not a nerd -- she's into Craig David and Justin Timberlake, too.
