Bianca May dela Cruz: Miss Kagay-an 2008 candidate
By Mark D. Francisco

A MANILA girl schooling at La Consolacion College, 21-year-old Bianca May dela Cruz transferred to Liceo de Cagayan University two years ago to take up nursing.

Despite her lack of fluency in Cebuano (the dialect here), Bianca managed to charm her co-nursing students as well as the judges when she bagged the Miss College of Nursing title at Liceo de Cagayan University for SY 2007-2008.

Bouyed by her win and encouraged by another beauty queen, Miss Philippines-Earth Northern Mindanao 2003 Jasmin Borja, Bianca tried out at Miss Kagay-an 2008 go-see last July 18 at City Tourism Hall.

Members of the screening committee, which included new nursing board passer and reigning Miss Kagay-an Tourism 2007 Diana Bagonoc, were impressed with Bianca.

During the public presentation for Miss Kagay-an 2008 at the Grand Mindanao Ballroom of Pryce Plaza Hotel last July 26, Bianca showed her wit again as she was able to breeze through answering the question on what makes Cagayan de Oro sellable for tourists.

"The selling point of Cagayan de Oro is the hospitality of its people," Bianca said who has spent 90 percent of her life outside the city.

Despite being a beauty queen, Bianca is still a down-to-earth person.

Just like any girl next door, she loves bags and flipflops. She also loves writing, whether it is a quote or a poem. She may be called an emotional person as she loves watching stars by the beach.

"I'm just a simple lady, I just want everything to be as simple as they are, as simple as it could be, I'm very much easy to please, I'm a God-fearing type of person," Bianca said.
