Saturday, August 02, 2008 Thoughts on purity from CdeO youth
DURING the World Youth Day in Australia recently, Pope Benedict XVI spoke on what he calls as a "spiritual desert" in today's youth.
Be that as it may, another truth is slowly forming -- the growing trend in the number of young single women in the west who have committed to wear chastity rings.
These so-called chastity rings are worn at the left ring finger to symbolize a young woman's commitment to purity until bridal night.
Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro Lifestyle Desk has asked a number of female Kagay-anons on the matter and the following are their responses:
"If it'll be a fad here in our country, I would like to be the very first woman to wear the so-called purity/chastity ring. Only then I'll take it off if I already have the man of my dreams and be married with him. Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same." -- Rexza Tagaloguin, 24, Miss Kagay-an 2008 Candidate No. 13.
"Of course, my virginity is intended only to my future husband because I do really believe that virginity is the best gift you can give to your husband." -- Heart, 17, Mindanao Polytechnic State College (MPSC) student.
"I will stay a virgin until marriage." -- Beam, 17 from Balulang, Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (MOGCHS) graduate, a Roman Catholic and had three boyfriends already.
"I cannot guarantee that I'll stay a virgin until marriage. But I know it's a sin." - Hazel, 17, a high school senior schooling in Bohol.
"I will stay a virgin." -- Tiffany, an 18-year-old Born Again Christian residing at Kauswagan and taking up BS Nursing at Xavier University.
"I never had a boyfriend so far but I will stay a virgin until marriage." -- Lenie, 20, a BS Commerce graduate from Davao City but now residing here in Cagayan de Oro City.
"I will stay a virgin until marriage." -- Ennah, 17 years old from Puerto, schooling at STI.
"I'm not a virgin anymore. Premarital sex is wrong but it's hard to resist temptation." -- Clarice, a 19-year-old Kagay-anon but taking up BS Nursing at Bukidnon State University.
"I'm not a virgin anymore. Blame it on the Generations X, Y, and Z and the media." -- Miss Subbucus, 25 years old. (MDF)
