Lasy Kwong: Miss Kagay-an 2008 candidate
By Mark D. Francisco

"THEY say I have a nice butt."

Those unforgettable words from 19-year-old Lasy Susan Kwong rang to the ears of the members of the screening committee and eventually declare her as one of the official candidates for Miss Kagay-an 2008.

Arroyo Watch: Sun.Star blog on President Arroyo

Of course, the screening committee is composed of very reliable people -- folks like City Tourism Board honorary chair Divina Jaraula (the mayor's wife), reigning Miss Kagay-an Tourism Diana Bagonoc and Department of Tourism (DOT) Northern Mindanao director Catalino "Butch" Chan.

Lasy uttered those words when the hopeful was still in her casual look.

When she changed into a swimsuit attire, the members of the screening committee were awestruck with her figure -- she did have the body to prove her words right.

Another transformation that Lasy underwent just for the pageant was to cut her hair short. Now she looks like the equally beauteous Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction, dancing in tandem with John Travolta.

I'm not sure if Lasy is a good dancer though but she's darn photogenic in her new look.

Lasy is currently a nursing student at Lourdes College.

Her Miss Kagay-an 2008 stint is not her first soiree into the beauty pageantry. She was already a Miss Camaman-an in 2006.

But beyond being a beauty princess, Lasy is still your ordinary girl next door.

Just like the rest of the young women in Cagayan de Oro, she loves watching movies and counts 300, The Pursuit of Happiness and Cinderella Story as among her favorites.
