Friday, August 08, 2008 Mayor halts Velez street concreting
CITY Mayor Constantino Jaraula Thursday ordered the Department of Public Works and Highways to stop the ongoing diggings and concreting of Velez Street.
Jaraula said Velez Street should be made available to vehicular traffic, which is expected to grow in the coming days before the city fiesta this coming August 28.
The order came after executives from Promote CDO Foundation expressed apprehension that the concreting of Velez Street will not be finished on time for the city fiesta where a major event, the Parade of Floats, will passed by the thoroughfare.
"Continuous concreting of Velez Street during this season will compel motorists to use the narrower roads," Jaraula said.
Jaraula sent a letter to Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) District Engineer Teresita Babaylan that the entire stretch of Velez Street from Licoan-Recto to Fernandez Street should be opened to traffic by August 16.
"By then traffic will increase because of the fiesta," he said.
The DPWH, which started the concreting of Velez Street still has to finish about four hundred meters of the road. (Press release)
