Monday, August 11, 2008 Activities for Kumbira 2008 bared
THE secretariat for Kumbira 2008 has outlined the activities for the three-day affair.
After the ribbon cutting and opening ceremonies on the first day, August 14, at Limketkai Atrium, there will be a seminar with the theme "Beyond Borders" on the setting up a buffet table with centerpiece.
This will be followed by a seminar on artistic bread showpiece with the theme Islands to Highlands.
Other seminars at stake are the bar chow platter, hinam-is (a Mindanao creative dessert), coconut showpiece with the theme Tribal Houses, setting up a lechon manok service station, as well as baby cakes on the-spot-decorating.
Of course, there will be cooking demonstrations from Unilever Food Solutions and Clara Ole.
And just like the United States' Iron Chef television series, Kumbira 2008 has its own culinary competition in the form of Chef Wars: Kulinarya-Classical Filipino.
On the second day of the fair on Friday, August 15, there will be seminars on corn showpiece with the theme Bountiful Harvest as well as demonstrations on how to make suman sa Mindanao, Pasko ham garnishing, Mindanao fiesta buffet, Nescafe coffee concoction, picnic basket, on-the-spot bed setting featuring holidays in the Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippine (BIMP) corridor, and another cooking demonstration this time from Nestle Professional.
On the third and last day of the event on Saturday, August 16, there will be demonstrations on how to arrange the Pinoy sinugba platter, Kusina Rapido, rice combo, and Kagay-anon sinuglaw (two ways).
There will also be a cooking demonstration by Universal Robina Corporation as well as the most-awaited event by Hotel and Restaurant Management (HRM) students in the city - the flairtending competition ala Piper Perabo in Coyote Ugly.
For the older generation, flairtending competitions such as these remind them of Tom Cruise in the late 1980s movie Cocktail.
On the last day, the featured theme for the Chef Wars is Classic Continental. Awarding ceremonies follow. (Press release/With Mark D. Francisco)
