Wednesday, August 13, 2008 Lugait tops nutrition tilt
AROUND 600 barangay nutrition scholars from Misamis Oriental attended the convention and Nutrition Month culmination program at the Provincial Capitol garden over the weekend.
The post culmination program was originally set last July 25 but because of some impediment, the activity had been postponed, provincial information officer Maricel Rivera said.
Senator Ramon Revilla Jr. was the honored guest and keynote speaker.
Aside from being the keynote speaker, Revilla also witnessed the ceremonial turnover of G4 (Garden of Go, Grow and Glow) seeds to top nutrition program implementers and the awarding of prizes to the winners of several nutrition-related contests.
Barangay Poblacion of the municipality of Lugait was the recipient of the Most Outstanding Barangay while one of its barangay nutrition scholars, Elenida Reyes, was named as outstanding recipient.
For the past three years, Misamis Oriental has been a recipient of the National Nutrition Council's Green Banner Award for its projects on food production, micro-nutrient supplementation, food fortification, nutrition education, livelihood assistance, nutrition advocacies, and maternal and child health services.
These resulted to the 4.36 percent reduction in malnutrition cases among pre-school from a high 18.84 percent in 2005 to last year's 14.18 percent, Rivera said.
Theme for this year's celebration was Sa Wastong Nutrition ni Mommy, Siguradong Healthy si Baby.
Winners in the Healthy Mother and Child, Slogan, Jingle, Nutrition G4 Meal and Dessert, and Nutri-Quiz contests were publicly recognized.
