Beauty court conducts outreach at Boys Town

THE Miss Kayag-an 2007 Court composed of Diana Bagonoc, Miss Kagay-an Tourism '07, and her court, Dianne Galenzoga, Natasha Mills, and Kathleen Marie Tabada, 1st, 2nd and 3rd runner-ups respectively, launched their social-civic project, Because We Care.

In Because We care, the ladies gathered goods most needed by the Boys Town residents at Barangay Lumbia.

The center has about 54 abandoned boys.

Corazon Buntag, center head, expressed her gratitude to the group's calling the public's attention to the plight of the boys-in-residence.

The ladies gave out soap, toothbrush, slippers, shirts, blankets, school supplies, toys, and other items.

Not only were the boys given gifts and treats, the 2007 court has also agreed with barangay chair William Valencia, the Barangay Lumbia council, Pueblo de Oro Golf & Country Club's Mark Gaston, and Pueblo de Oro Development Corp., to assist the Center in providing livelihood projects that would benefit the boys.

The livelihood projects will promote additional means for them to augment their food and monetary needs while developing the technical skills and social responsibility sense of the boys.

The highlight of the morning was the surprise visit of Representative Rufus Rodriguez of the 2nd District of Cagayan de Oro.

Rodriguez provided lunch for the boys and their visitors.

Rodriguez also pledged P1 million for the rehabilitation of the Center and for the positioning of Boys Town as an agricultural livelihood center.

The event was in celebration of the Boys in the Center.

As Ms. Kagay-an Tourism 2007 Diana Bagonoc aptly expressed to the Boys, "Through you, we have come to realize that many people are also very much willing to help. We are here because we care!" (Press release)
