Tuesday, August 19, 2008 Mouth-watering, lip-smacking new treats at Bigby's By Danilo V. Adorador III
MESMERIZING. Zesty. Flavorsome.
Nope, I'm not describing the sights and sounds, the flair and flavor of merriment in the fast-approaching Cagayan de Oro fiesta. The adjectives aptly tell the new fare at Bigby's, that haven of food lovers at Limketkai Center and, truly, the city's pride when it comes to superb dining experience.
I found these excellent gastronomic delights when I, along with friend Candy, played a gourmet to Bigby's new -- and amazingly mouth-watering -- bill of fare.
For our hors d'oeuvre, we tried the Triple Crunch Platter, consisting of crunchy nachos, tic-tac rolls, sweet onion loops, lip-smacking cheese sauce and other appetite-inspiring spices. Truly inspiring indeed, that Triple Crunch Platter, if one is to muster digestive vigor to carry on the rest of the banquet!
Then off to the Tiki Wacky Chiken Salad. It does sound a tongue twister somehow, but the Tiki Wacky Chiken Salad does a bit of that: the mixture of succulent romaine lettuce, tomatoes, yellow mangoes, grapes, walnuts, cheese, croutons and topped with a luscious, creamy chicken salad induces a riddle to the tongue -- the kind of brainteaser only your five senses can tell.
Whew! Candy and I just barely scratched Bigby's new carte du jour! And we still have Pollo Saborito, Belly Buster, Bistro Steak Cheese, Sausage Fusili Pasta before the finish line.
What a treat! Halfway along the course and I've already run out of ways to describe the sumptuous fare. Indeed, every gourmet -- professional or otherwise -- must learn some food appreciation course because Bigby's new menu has just gotten longer. The new foods include:
* Salads: Hunky Greek Salad, Emperor Caesar's Salad, Caesar Salad and Deck Combo, Soup and Deck Combo and Soup and Caesar Salad Combo.
* Sandwiches-Bistro Sandwich Cheesesteak and Baja Fresh Wraps.
* Desserts-The Rockies, Apple Crumble Cobbler, Coco Maja and Triple Blizzard.
* Kamikaze Balls-Crispy, hand-braided prawn balls and button mushroom on bamboo sticks; served with herb vinegar.
* Tic-Tac Rolls-Crispy Vietnamese-style spring rolls with vermicelli, vegetables and shrimp.
* Buenos Nachos-A mountain of corn chips with nacho cheese sauce, ground beef and salsa fresca.
* Bruschetta di Mama Rosa-Mama's home-style pizza bread using baguette with a mix of tomatoes, onion, basil and olive oil then topped with mozzarella cheese.
Diners can also count on Bigby's original house favorites -- foods that made the Kagay-anon restaurant an Island-trotter.
After establishing a foothold in Cagayan de Oro, where it is already considered an institution for good food and excellent service, Bigby's has also firmly established itself in Visayas and Luzon. Early this month, Bigby's opened its second branch in Davao City.
