Friday, September 05, 2008 Coop summit on agrarian reform held today
SENATOR Gregorio Honasan, Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Agrarian Reform, will be the Guest of Honor and Keynote Speaker of the 1st Regional Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries' Cooperative Summit today at Pearlmont Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City.
Organizers of the summit have invited Honasan to personally hear the sentiments of the different CARP stakeholders with the hope that the Senate will fast-track the passage of the bill extending the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program.
DAR Secretary Nasser Pangandaman will also grace the summit and will give a talk on the Philippine agrarian reform. CDA Chairperson Lecira Juarez will also outline the cooperatives' role in agrarian reform.
Some Northern Mindanao Congressmen and selected Party List Representatives including Rep. Risa Hontiveros-Baraquel have also confirmed their attendance in the summit.
Various leaders from the peasantry, civil society, NGOs, academe, the Roman Catholic Church and government line agencies will state their respective perspectives on CARP extension with reforms.
This event is spearheaded by the Cooperative Development Authority-Region 10 in partnership with the Provincial CARP Implementing Team (PCIT) and Provincial CARP Coordinating Committee of Misamis Oriental.(PR)
