Saturday, September 06, 2008 Farmers undergo livestock training By Cong Corrales
THE City Veterinary Office Livestock Farmers' Field School on Swine Production and Management recently graduated less than a hundred farmers from the course.
City Veterinarian Dr. Perla Asis said that out of the 95 farmers who graduated, only six failed in the evaluation on Swine Production and Management. The training has a passing grade of 50 percent.
One farmer got a high score of 96 percent and the rest got high ranking grades.
"After four months of training and lectures which started last April 18 to September 4, I am very happy with the result, it is very satisfying and rewarding," Asis added.
The CVO, in partnership with UNAHCO, conducted the course.
The course has 20 modules that included hands-on-training on castration and proper medications on hogs.
For the training, the City Government dispersed a total of 35 swines to the farmers as part of the city's livestock production and livelihood program.
Farmers from 11 barangays who benefited from the program are from Carmen, Nazareth, Macasandig, Indahag, Bulua, Tablon, Cugman, Balulang, Mambuaya, Iponan and Tignapoloan.
Councilor Cesar Ian Acenas graced the occasion as guest speaker of the Farmer Field School Graduation and Induction of Officers of the Kagayhaan Backyard Swine Raisers Association. (With Press release)
