Great fun begins in Jaraula Cup golfest
By Lynde Salgados

"WE'RE like crazy fellows over here. Hitting a tiny ball and sweating it out all over in this vast green field which is truly a punishing job one could hardly imagine even in our childhood memories."

With these words coming from the ever jolly Jerry Limbonhai, the fun begins in the 2008 Oro Chamber Mayor Jaraula Cup Open Golf Tournament at the Pueblo de Oro Golf Course in Cagayan de Oro City.

"When we're still kids, our parents would have a hard time taking order for us to work a little. But look we're here all over again voluntarily submitting ourselves for a laborious task that is golf," added the usually soft-spoken Edu Alaba.

Limbonhai, owner of Deluxe hotel, and Alaba, proprietor of Dynamic Pharmacy took Thursday a scorching flight number 25 in the company of the youthful Alain Mark Golez, vice president for administration of Liceo de Cagayan University, and Edgar Emata of ECE Construction.

It was a humid start with the blistering heat of the sun refusing to cool down halfway through the 18-hole rigor. Yet, the perfect foursome for a golfing mate can take pride of their modest effort on the fair way that all of them still managed to produce a par or two performances.

At once, the left-handed Alaba even mused when his ambitious drive flirted near the featured Hole number 3's red flag where a hole-in-one jackpot prize of P1-million cash is at stake.

"Putting one-million cash for the hole-in-one only makes this tournament more exciting. It's going to be a great honor in my part as chairman of this event if there would be somebody else to hit the jackpot," Noel Nalzaro told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro.

Nalzaro said the proceeds of the Jaraula Cup will go for the completion of the Oro Chamber's new building at the back of SM Cagayan de Oro.

The golf tourney, which lures in an initial cast of 280 parbusters from all over the country, also serves as major sports highlight of the ongoing Oro Best Expo 2008.
