Wednesday, November 12, 2008 COPC celebrates 57th anniversary By Cong B. Corrales
MEN and women in the Cagayan de Oro media celebrated Tuesday the 57th founding anniversary of the Cagayan de Oro Press Club (COPC) in a dinner at Philtown hotel.
Anchored on the theme "Ang kamatuoran, kagahapon, karon ug sa umalabot," COPC president Jerry Orcullo called on members of the local media to keep up with the challenges of the job by seeking the truth at all times.
"Ang pagsaulog sa ika-57 ka tuig nga kasumaran sa pagkamugna sa COPC maoy dayag nga hulagway sa mga paningkamot sa kahugpongan isip pagtubag sa mga pagsulay ug hagit sa panahon bisan luyo sa mga nanagpanghitabong pagpanghadlok ug pagpamatay sa mga kaigsoonan sa prensa. In the quest for truth and in its sublime duty to defend it at all cost, COPC stood by the years...unbowed and uncowed and without fear," Orcullo said in a statement.
Orcullo, who could not attend the celebration because of a prior medical check-up in Davao City, added: "It is in the struggle for truth and in defense of press freedom that COPC continue to exist and is known for as the premier media organization in Northern Mindanao over the years and it's respectability and integrity has remained unquestionable."
Joey Nacalaban, vice president for membership, expressed optimism on the club's growth in the years to come, and reminded its members to be true to the tenets of journalism.
"I just hope that the club will continue to flourish and adhere to the right path of journalism without favor and compromise," said Nacalaban, a Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro photojournalist.
