Cemappi elects officers; Rypit sets audition June 30 By Sam Costanilla SPOTLIGHT
AMBITIOUS. “To professionalize the local entertainment business.” Sounds ambitious, yes, but the newly-organized Cebu Entertainment Media, Artists, Producers and Promoters, Inc. (Cemappi) is aiming high to realize this noble intention.
After all, everything starts from nothing but if only everybody cooperates, undertakings are easy to achieve and dreams become a reality. With this guiding principle as their strong encouragement, Cemappi founders decided to create the group in a meeting a few months ago although they held no election of officers. That gathering was simply held to explore the possibility and to study the viability of organizing an umbrella for local performers, show organizers and legitimate entertainment writers and broadcasters.

OFFICERS. The next meeting of the group, done in a private resort in Mactan, resulted in the election of charter officers who all vowed to do their best in solidifying Cemappi and protect the interest of its members. Yours truly has been chosen president despite his vehement protestations. I later realized that there is a challenge to face so I eventually yielded to the body’s desire for me to head the club. Composer-lawyer Mel Libre, marketing expert Tita Domingo, singing Rotarian Danny Diluvio and show organizer Tata “Prof. Swami” Abad are the vice president, secretary, treasurer and press relations officer, respectively. Composer-arranger Doy Montana, singer Novo Bono, Jr. and Business Designs, Phils. Inc.’s Susan Dy-Lucero are board directors.
As charter president, yours truly has been empowered by the club to appoint the chairmen, vice chairmen and members of the by-laws and membership committees which I have yet to do.

AUDITION. The Repertory of Young Professionals In Theatre (Rypit) is holding a special audition on Sunday, June 30, at its base in Apas this city. To be auditioned are male applicants who can sing, act and dance, 15 years old and above. Interested parties may call Rypit founder-director Jamna Gicole’s tel. no. 231-1060 for the audition requirements. By the way, Rypit is staging on Sept. 14 its own version of the hit Broadway musical “Annie” at the University of Southern Philippines gymnasium. It features purely homegrown talents so let us all watch them and show our support for their effort. Ticket reservations can now be made by calling Gicole.

GATECRASHER. This notorious “radio commentator” is a certified gatecrasher. Although he was not invited to a luncheon-presscon, he showed up at the gathering and even had the gall to make snide remarks against the host during the question-and-answer portion.
