Killer of taxi driver tagged By Oscar C. Pineda
THE suspect arrested for possession of an unlicensed .45 last June 22 may be the same person who robbed and killed taxi driver Felix Cinco last June 6.
Lapu-Lapu City Homicide Chief Geoffrey Baguio said this after receiving the PNP ballistic examination findings, which confirmed that the gun taken from suspect Mike Sultan Panda-patan was the same one that killed Cinco.
No results yet
The police, though, have yet to receive the results of the comparative examination of Pandapatan’s fingerprints and that lifted from the crime scene.
If the fingerprints match, this would prove that Panda-patan was inside Cinco’s taxi prior to the killing.
Cinco was shot in the back of his head and his body was dumped in a secluded area in Sitio Dapdap, Barangay Mactan.
The N-taxi he was driving was found stripped of its car stereo and abandoned in Barangay Basak, eight kilometers away.
Police recovered an empty cal. 45 shell inside the Cinco’s taxi.
Upon examination, the shell had similar markings with those taken from Pandapatan’s pistol during a test fire.
The markings, such as extraction marks on the shell’s shaft and firing pin mark on the center of shell’s base, confirmed that both shells come from the same gun.
Confirmation
Lapu-Lapu City Theft and Robbery Section Chief Rene Cotamora said the ballistic exam confirmation on Pandapatan’s gun plus Cinco’s car stereo, which was traced to him, strengthen their case against the suspect.
The police also have a witness to attest that Pandapatan asked him to dispose of the said stereo with Cinco’s personal markings.
Police arrested Panda-patan on the night of June 22 in Humay-Humay St., Barangay Gun-ob for illegal gun possession.
They are now preparing a robbery with homicide case against Pandapatan who is still in their custody. |
