Krua Thai preparing for franchisingJessica B. Natad
By Jessica B. Natad

THAI restaurant Krua Thai will go into franchising by the end of this year.

This after the only Thai restaurant in Cebu received lots of inquiries and encouragement to venture into the franchising business, said managing proprietor Anthony Ballreich (Hiranpruck).

“We are now in the process of finalizing our franchising system. We decided to have our branch in Mactan as the prototype of Krua Thai. All our franchised branches will be the same as that in Mactan,” he said.

Krua Thai Mactan, which opened last May, is the restaurant’s second branch in Cebu.

Ballreich said three applicants from Davao and five from Manila had already expressed interest in getting the restaurant’s franchise.

He also said the company would open a Thai seafood restaurant in Cebu City.

As regards Krua Thai Mactan, Ballreich said most of its patrons are expatriates, people from the Mactan Economic Zone (MEZ), and tourists coming from the Mactan Cebu International Airport.

Ballreich said Krua Thai-Mactan now had food promotions such as a lunch or dinner set for two persons at P299. The set already includes a choice of pork or chicken or beef in oyster sauce, any choice of appetizer, any choice of soup, Thai plain rice, and one round of iced tea or soft drink.

There are also single combinations pegged at P79, P89 and P99.

The restaurant’s chef is Thai, and the spices used, sauce and some vegetables are imported from Thailand.

Krua Thai opened its first restaurant at Crossroads in Banilad in February 2000.

Ballreich said the company was able to get the return on its P2.5-million investment for the branch in just one year.
