Man ‘hits’ bry. captain with glass By Oscar C. Pineda
A BARANGAY official in Lapu-Lapu City got hit in the face when a knife-wielding man attacked him and a friend during a drinking session outside a benefit dance Sunday dawn.
Ibo Barangay Captain Rodulfo Noval was hit in the face with a glass. His drinking buddy, Gregorio Suasola, 58, also suffered a cut in the left hand as he parried the thrust of suspect Kever Soriño.
Soriño fled after the incident.
Police picked up Soriño’s two nephews Richard Soriño, 20, Benjie Eslarcosa, 19, and a 17-year old minor for investigation as some witnesses said they were also involved.
Noval said in an interview that last Saturday night, or hours before the benefit dance started, a certain Dioso was fired upon and struck in the head by one Boy Co.
Dioso, who suffered a cut in the head, is Noval’s supporter. Dioso, while being treated, told the official to be careful.
Noval said Co is the supporter of his winning political opponent. He said Co was the one who manhandled him during the youth registration last May 20 in Ibo.
The barangay chief is facing three cases for that incident as some personnel of Association of Barangay Councils office said it was Noval who started the trouble.
Last Saturday, Noval hosted a small drinking session outside the benefit dance.
At past 1 a.m. Sunday, Soriño approached them and even greeted Noval, who offered the suspect a glass of “tagay” (liquor).
But instead of drinking, Soriño hit the official in the face with the glass offered to him.
Suasola intervened. Soriño then pulled his knife and stabbed Noval’s friend. At this point, the police came but suspect was able to flee.
Some witnesses also told the police to arrest Soriño’s companions as they too pulled their knives during the commotion. But no knives were found with Soriño’s companions. |
