AFP arnisadors claim overall title

REY Robin Chan came up with another win to grab two titles in the forms and sparring events of the 1st Cebu International Arnis Championships at the Ayala Activity Center last Sunday.

While General Headquarters of the Armed Forces of the Philippines took overall wins during the two-day competition held in Dumanjug Saturday and Ayala Sunday.

Chan of Sto. Niño Eskrima Club won in the 8-10 years-old Full-Contact Sparring against Mabolo Eskrima Club’s Noel Gilig. Chan previously won in the 8-10 years-old Forms division against fellow club member and younger brother David.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines Arnis Team, which bagged the most wins courtesy of the GHQ division, also bagged top honors last Sunday.

Christian Millan of GHQ grabbed the Men’s Single Weapon title while GHQ’s Reggie Sanchez, Jeffrey Agustin, Renante Ybañez and Millan captured the Synchronize division title.

Sanchez also went on to earn the championship title in the Men’s 137-140lb division.

The contingent from the USA also grabbed five titles courtesy of Dean Luarence (Men’s 125-130lb), Steve del Castillo (Men’s 152-156lb), Chris Paltao (Men’s 163-166lb), Tim Suehiro (Men’s 148-151lb) and Scot Sleazak in the Seniors
Lightweight division.

Kiwi

New Zealands Gordon Carney, who lost to Sleazak in Dumanjug, was at his best when he defeated USA’s Steve Griffin in the Seniors Heavyweight class last Sunday in Ayala.

Leo Cosep of San Miguel Eskrima Club (Smec) was the Boys 10-13 years- old champion while Kauswagan Self-Defense Brotherhood’s (KSDB) Jovelyn Miñoza was the queen in the Women’s Open.

Mabolo’s Cesmundo Gimcee grabbed the top plum in the Junior Lightweight division while Filmocan’s Heart Eve Lopez was declared the Junior Heavyweight champion.
Candole Aurello won the Men’s 111-115lb division crown.

Philippine National Police, which came in third overall, grabbed the Men’s 131-136lb division title through Renato Tuñacao. His teammate Anthony Vision secured the win in the 157-162lb category.
