Anti-drugs billiard tourney launched
By Jade A. Violeta

TO HELP in the war against drug addiction. This is the theme of the 1st Cebu City-Gillamac’s Cup Inter-School 9-ball billiard competition launched yesterday at the Mi Vida Restaurant and Bar at Ayala Center.

City Councilor Jack Jakosalem, one of the guests of honor in yesterday’s press conference, assured organizers of the City Government’s all-out support for the tournament set to start next month.

He said he’s glad organizers came up with the idea to stage the school-based event as it compliments Cebu City’s drive against drugs through sports.

“We are very concerned with the rampant drug addiction affecting our society today thus our full support for sports events,” Jakosalem said. ““Through sports, we can fight drug addiction and this tournament is a good way to lure the youth away from drugs as well as a deterrent against other vices.

The councilor was joined in the presscon by Philippine Sports Commission Regional Director Arnel Pasion, San Miguel Corp.’s Jerry Roa, Gillamac’s marketing chief operating officer Joe Cui, Gillamac’s vice president for operations Al Elipse, Stooges owners Bob and Grace Macallum and Sencia’s and Padic’s Sports Hall owner Dicol Roa.

The first-ever inter-collegiate 9-ball billiard competition in Cebu City is endorsed by the Commission on Higher Education (Ched) and the PSC and is sponsored by Sun.Star Cebu, The Freeman, Cebu Daily News, RC Goldlines and Saleshop, POW Designs and Energy FM.
