Belen to head PRO 7 on Wed. as ‘caretaker’ By Garry Cabotaje
SENIOR Supt. Ernesto Belen, the new Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 officer-in-charge (OIC), yesterday said he will only act as a caretaker while waiting for a permanent PRO 7 director who may assume next month.
Belen said he will be given the next second highest post, the deputy regional director for administration, once the new regional director comes in.
Belen, who is still serving as PNP Firearms and Explosives (FEO) director, will assume his new assignment on Aug. 28. Upon his arrival, he will immediately call for a command briefing with the PRO 7 directorial staff.
Chief Supt. Vidal Querol, the current Northern Police District chief, remains the strong contender for the post.
But Belen, a native of Dolores, Quezon Province from PMA Class ‘74 and a contemporary of former PRO 7 Director Avelino Razon, said he will just do the task given to him.
“Whether I am a caretaker or not, I have to do my job. This is my first assignment in Central Visayas and it’s a big challenge for me,” he said in a mobile phone interview.
Belen also urged the people in Region 7, especially the Cebuanos, to give their full support to the PNP, saying “we can do so much with the support and cooperation of the community.”
He said he will prioritize the campaign against criminality, illegal gambling and drugs once he officially assumes his new post next week.
