Cop dies in his sleep
By Mia E. Abellana

A POLICEMAN, who was reportedly suffering from fatigue, died in his sleep because of hemorrhagic pancreatitis or “urom” yesterday dawn.

PO3 Ronald “Tata” delos Reyes, 34, was found by his wife Gemma curled on the concrete floor of their house in Sawang Calero at 4 a.m.

His colleagues at the San Nicolas Police Station were shocked at the news, saying he was one of the jolliest policemen in their station.

The Philippine flag outside the station was positioned at half-staff in his memory.

Senior Insp. Erlinda Alvarado, the station administration officer, said delos Reyes was unusually tired the day before.

Delos Reyes, who headed the second miscellaneous team, was on duty Tuesday evening.

He was supposed to be off-duty last Wednesday, but he had to report to the station to file a case against a man he arrested last Tuesday.

He also had to stay until afternoon because of the annual general inspection (AGI).
By 5 p.m., he reportedly went straight to bed.

Gemma woke him up at about 9 p.m. so he could eat supper.

After eating, he reportedly stayed in the living room to watch television.
At 4 a.m., Gemma went to check on her husband, but found him lifeless on the floor with
the television still on.

“Tabian kaayo na siya. Sabaan pero kalingaw ra gud na ang iyaha,” said Alvarado. (He was very talkative.)

The eldest son of retired Senior Insp. Romeo delos Reyes, Ronald was said to be active in leading operations against illegal drugs and illegal gambling in their area.

San Nicolas Police Station Chief Marciano Batiancela said that in his three months as station chief, he has nothing negative to say about delos Reyes.

“Dedicated to siya sa iyang trabaho. Kung unsa akong i-direct sa iyaha mosunod gyud siya,” Batiancela said. (He was obedient.)

Team member PO2 Deogracias Clarin said delos Reyes loved his job so much that he did not mind having to deal with arrested men who fought back.

Delos Reyes graduated from the Regional Training School (RTS) 7 in 1990.
He is survived by his wife and three children, aged 14, 8 and 6.

His body lies in their home in Sawang-Calero and is scheduled for burial on Aug. 31.
