All-Cebu Finals eyed By Rommel C. Manlosa
M. LHUILLIER Jewelers showed grace under pressure as they scored a nailbiting win over Homer Mercado Builders, 83-80, in the final elimination round game of the 4th Danny Espiritu Cup at the Lyceum Gym Wednesday evening.
The Jewelers beat the same team they will meet in the knockout quarterfinals, which was scheduled last night. It was Spring Cooking Oil versus Forward Taguig in the other quarterfinal match.
The Jewelers’ victory over the Homer Mercado Builders restored the possibility of an-all Cebu Finals as the Jewelers will meet league-leader Hartman Seigle in the semis should the Jewelers beat Homer Mercado anew.
Kwarta will play in the semis the winner of the other quarterfinal duel.
Hartman Seigle and ML Kwarta Padala have a twice-to-beat advantage in the round of four.
It was the three-point shot of Michael Almonte that gave the Jewelers the win after the hotly contested game that was only decided in the final seconds of the match.
As the score was tied at 80-all, Almonte was left wide open beyond the arc averting an additional five minutes to determine the winner.
The Jewelers landed at the fourth place with a 4-3 win-loss card while the Builders, who also finished at 4-3, were relegated to fifth place.
