Castañares up against legit spoiler in Aug. 31 card By Rommel C. Manlosa
PHILIPPINE superlight-weight king and former be-medalled amateur fighter Dindo “Diesel” Castañares will risk a bright professional career as he fights the dangerous veteran Fernando Montilla on Aug. 31 at the Cebu Coliseum.
The fight promoted by boxing promoter/matchmaker Sammy G. Gello-ani and dubbed “Big Test for the ALA Boys”, will be the biggest test of Castañares’ two-year boxing career as Montilla, who has 18 knockouts in 27 wins from 48 fights, has promised mayhem in their 10-round contest.
Montilla, the 25-year-old ward of Lito Mondejar, is an eight-year veteran who counts Rey Llagas, Armand Molina, Benjie Duran and Dante “Chowking” Paulino among his prominent ring preys.
Montilla is also a veteran of many international fights, including stints in Thailand, Indonesia, Japan and Australia. He has knocked out Thai fighters Vichit Chuwatana and Frasong Por Panita and had a draw against Japanese world-rated boxer Nishioka Tosiaki.
Although he will be the underdog against Castañares, Montilla, who is known as the “Spoiler,” has the skill to score an upset against the Cebuano champion.
Castañares, who he succeed over Montilla, will fight in Osaka, Japan for his first international appearance against Daigoro Yamamoto on Oct. 5. He is also protecting his No.1 rating in the 140-pound division of the OPBF.
Supporting the Casta-ñares–Montilla tussle are three other ALA Boys who are pitted against tough opponents from Manila. The classy Z Gores will trade punches against RP No.10 flyweight Jonnie Coma, while the No.6 ranked Bart Abapo tests RP No.1 junior lightweight Joebar Damosmog.
