‘Review LTO policies to solve problem on fixers’ By Rose O. Verzosa
MAYOR Thadeo Ouano said the problem on fixers and accredited medical clinics at the Land Transportation Office in Mandaue City can be better resolved by reviewing the agency’s national policies.
Ouano said he still has to evaluate LTO Mandaue Licensing Chief Hilario Bohol’s suggestion to put up a government mobile clinic near the transportation office.
Aside from funding considerations, Ouano said he has to check with the City Health Office whether they have available equipment and personnel for this.
Instead, Ouano suggested that the LTO accreditation of medical clinics should only be applied in remote areas where there are no government hospitals and clinics, otherwise, LTO should make it a policy that medical certificates should only be issued by government hospitals or health centers.
Bohol raised the idea of having a government mobile clinic near LTO after a father of an alleged fixer, who was earlier arrested, threw stones at his office last Tuesday night.
Bohol has been strictly implementing the rules against the presence of fixers within the LTO compound. With the mobile clinic around, Bohol said no more fixers will be staying within the vicinity.
Ouano said LTO should even have to evaluate whether their policy of requiring applicant drivers to secure medical certificates from accredited clinics is helping the applicant-drivers at all.
