Angan feels pressured to do job well
By Mia E. Abellana

WITH City Hall lobbying behind him, Supt. Josephus Angan cannot help but feel a bit pressured to do a better job as acting Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) director.

But despite the pressure, Angan said he is still thankful for the trust and confidence City Hall officials have in him.

“I have to meet a lot of expectations. Since day one I have been under pressure to perform,” he said.

Angan has been acting as city police director since Senior Supt. Lani-o Nerez was relieved over his failure to curb the rash of robberies that hit the city last May.

While he admitted that he wants to stay and serve as CCPO director, Angan said he could only follow the orders of his superiors.

Camp Crame’s Senior Officers and Placement Board is evaluating several qualified officers to replace Angan and Acting Cebu Provincial Police Office Director Maximo Calimlim.

A highly urbanized city such as Cebu requires a city director with the rank of senior superintendent or full-fledged colonel.

A superintendent is equivalent to a lieutenant colonel in the military.

Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 Director Rolando Garcia said Angan cannot be in the list of qualified officers because of his rank.

According to Angan, only two of them in his class are holding high positions.

Angan, a PMA class ‘86 graduate, has been acting as city director for almost five months, while his classmate Supt. Rainier Idio has been Antique Provincial Police Office director for almost a year.

Meanwhile, three Cebu City PNP officers with the rank of chief inspector were promoted to superintendent.

The newly promoted police superintendents are Chief of Operations Leodigardo Acebedo, Waterfront Police Station Chief Noel Gillamac and Punta Princesa Police Station Chief Ernesto Agas.

With the additional officials assigned in Cebu City, Angan said there will be no revamp of key personnel just yet.

While he was glad about the promotion of these officers, he said they had more than enough police superintendents serving Cebu City.
