Petition for John-john-Gwen to be given to GMA in Argao By Jeanette P. Malinao
THE manifesto supporting the tandem of Cebu Vice Gov. John Gregory Osmeña and Capitol consultant Gwendolyn Garcia will be presented to President Arroyo when she visits Argao, Cebu for a water systems project inauguration on Oct. 23.
That’s according to Alayon Provincial Board (PB) Member Antonio Almirante, whose district leaders initiated the signing of the manifesto that has gotten the support of more than 30 mayors.
Unlike fifth district officials who were able to get millions worth of projects from Arroyo during their Mala-cañang dinner, Almirante said the President’s approval of the tandem will suffice for him.
“Giving her imprimatur to the pairing of John-john and Gwen is for me the best gift that she could bring. I will plead to her and appeal to her,” said the Board member.
Almirante and the rest of the second district officials are to visit Malacañang although there is no schedule yet.
Arroyo, however, will “definitely” be here on Oct. 23 to launch the P17 million worth water system in Colawin, Argao. She will also meet with farmer-scientists organized by Romulo Davide, brother of Chief Justice Hilario Davide Jr.
Sources at the Capitol also disclosed that Arroyo reportedly told the Duranos of the north that she has already made up her mind on endorsing Gwendolyn for vice governor.
Gov. Pablo Garcia confirmed the existence of such talks but said he wants to hear from the President herself.
The governor said Arroyo and his daughter “know each other.” It was Gwen-dolyn who accompanied Arroyo, before she became President, during her visits to Ormoc City and even Pilar town in Camotes Island.
‘Hogwash’
Former congressman Ce-lestino Martinez Jr. and his wife, Rep. Clavel Martinez, could not be contacted because they are still in Europe.
But Cebu Vice Mayors’ League president Ricardo Ramirez, a Martinez ally, says the talks are all “pure hogwash.”
“That’s drama to the max. Are they that desperate to have told Capitol’s janitors to spread the talks?” said Ramirez.
