ANS, Carmen to play rescheduled game
By Patrick C. Costelo

AFTER a brief meeting at the Cebu City Sports Center yesterday, M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala Under-18 football tournament director Graeme Mackinnon and Abellana National School coach Francis Ramirez have agreed to reschedule their semifinal match, which ANS forfeited against MLKP-Carmen.

Last Saturday, top elimination round-finisher ANS failed to show up for their semis game, which prompted Mackinnon to initially disqualify ANS according to the tournament rules.

MLKP-Carmen, which finished the elimination round at the No.2 spot, will play ANS at 3 p.m. tomorrow at the CIS field. The winner will clinch the first championship slot set on Sunday, while the loser will play University of San Carlos, which earlier thwarted the Cebu International Dragons, 3-2, on Friday or Saturday in a game that will determine who shall get the second finals seat.

The loser, on the other hand, will automatically settle for third spot.

In a phone interview last Sunday, Ramirez reasoned that he did not receive any form of communication regarding the game schedule, while Mackinnon insisted that he had notified Ramirez two weeks before the match.

“My boys were in good shape after winning the championship of the Cebu City Olympics last week, so there can’t be any logical reason for us to forfeit the game,” Ramirez said Sunday.

Earlier, Mackinnon said he would send a letter to Cebu Football Association (CFA) president Mario Ugarte, asking to investigate the matter. The compromise, however, prevented him from doing so.

“We have to move on from what we agreed upon. This is more about football and the kids. We both need a tough game to train for the Cviraa (Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association),” Mackinnon told Sun.Star yesterday.

Mackinnon added that it would have been a his-word-against-mine case had the matter reached the CFA.
