MG 349 debuts with win
By Patrick C. Costelo

DEFENDING champion MG 349 Black bagged a victory in its debut after shutting down Wilkin’s Red Tiger, 57-55, in the 2nd Conference opener of the Barangay T. Padilla Basketball Association Inter-Color basketball tournament last Sunday at the T. Padilla Sports Center.

In the other games, Unisports outlasted First Engine Rebuilder 2, 86-82, while Delcon Blue handed Adrien’s Bakeshop a cardiac 56-55 whacking in the second game.

The chilling main game saw intense combat as Wilkin’s took the driver’s seat after the opening frame with a 12-19 edge. However, Enrique Manal who led the MG 349 pack with 21 points, supplied the second period ammo as they headed for halftime with a 15-10 run to close the gap at 27-29.

Boy Lastueras sparked a balanced third quarter offense, which lifted Wilkin’s to a 40-47 lead as the game neared the deciding canto. But the electrifying fourth quarter spelled disaster for Wilkin’s as MG 349’s defensive stops limited them to a stingy seven–point production while the latter blazed with 17 points with Aldo Llanos draining eight of his 12 points.

Adrien’s Bakeshop struggled to pull away from the determined Delcon Blue after a 15-all first quarter. The half ended with Adrien’s nabbing the momentary lead at 29-34.

Didi Ferraren, who primed Adrien’s offense with 15 points, made seven points in the third as they stretched the lead at 39-47 before the final period.

A similar scene struck the streaking Adrien’s as they encountered an untimely scoring drought in the fourth quarter. Ailing with eight fourth quarter points, Adrien’s slumped to the back seat with a heart breaking one-point loss when Delcon rocketed blazed with 16 points.
