Share this Christmas By Myke Sarthou Wash Day
For someone like me who doesn’t have kids of my own, Christmas can become a lackluster time of year. As you grow up and become more engrossed with your career, the festivities of Christmas become lacking in excitement, especially when there are no kids around. Gone are the days when I would look at the gifts under the tree, guessing which ones were for me and what was in them.
Christmas has always been for the kids. The Christmas tree, the socks hanging on the wall, noche buena, firecrackers—the sounds, colors and smells of the season, all orchestrated for the child’s eyes and wonderment.
I am single and with the freedom of being so, I am left with the liberty of celebrating the season the way I want. Yet you can’t lose the fondness for the season. Not having kids around may slacken your drive to put up the Christmas tree at home, throw a big noche buena feast or wrap a ton of gifts, but your childhood Christmas will always be a part of you.
You don’t lose the spirit, but you just don’t do the same things that people with kids do. I discovered the season can be celebrated in many different ways. Last year I discovered this with a group of friends.
What we did was organize a Christmas party, not for ourselves, but for the orphaned and abandoned children of the Asilo de la Milagrosa along Gorordo ave., wherein we played games with the kids and gave away goodies and a lot of ice cream. For us it was not much, but you could feel and see the appreciation of the kids, their warmth, humble or even meek in their thanks. It was a moving experience that December day last year.
For whatever it was worth, it gave me more gratification than any gift I ever gave out in my life.
We decided to make it a tradition.
And this year, Talentfolio presents “Share a Christmas, A Concert for Children” with quintessential diva, Eva Santos. It is a Christmas concert that aims to draw attention to the SOS Children’s Village and all other charities. It hopes to create a tradition of sharing, not only this season but throughout the year by making other people aware of the plight of these children.
It is a concert dedicated to children and the child in us. The seasoned diva will perform a special repertoire for the show along with daughter Monique and special guest, Stagecrew’s Rommel Tuico.
The songs were meticulously selected and given new life for this concert. It is a musical experience that is given more opulence by a 16-member choir to back up the powerful voice of diva Eva.
Celebrate life. Make this year’s Christmas extra-special and meaningful by joining us in this concert set at the Ayala Theater One on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 8 p.m.
