Celebrity in Sinulog By Troy Ciar
Sun.Star Life and Leisure recently caught up with homegrown talents Anna Fegi, who guested at the Miss Cebu grand finals Thursday night, and Luke Mejares, who is on a mall tour for Hartmann. The two are still very humble, with that great lung power. Check them out in this article, together with other celebrity icons, as they look back at past Sinulog experiences and the things that they really miss about the celebration.
Anna Fegi, ABS-CBN talent, singer
I think being with friends is what I miss most. We hiked and danced the whole day and made friends with every nice guy we met on the street. Just partied and went crazy. Most of all, hearing mass at the Sto. Niño church. I’ve always been a devotee, even when I was still in high school. I feel that whatever I ask, He helps me get it.
Luke Mejares, former South Border vocalist
The thing I miss most about Sinulog is getting together with all my friends and having a blast! Sinulog became a venue for the barkada to meet a lot of interesting ladies, and that to us was well worth it. He, he… Without forgetting also that it is the day when we honor our dear Sr. Sto. Niño. Pit Senyor!
Mercy and Juliet Sunot, vocalists of Aegis
This is our first time to do a Sinulog concert here. Puros gyud excited kay bata pa mi sikat naman kaayo ning Sinulog sa amoa (in their hometown of Balulang, Cagayan). Sadly, we have to leave before Sunday because we still have other shows to fulfill in Manila.
Rommel Tuico, vocalist of Stagecrew
For the past Sinulogs up to the present, we have always been fully-booked, doing shows right there and then with so little time left for ourselves. We had one show that ended at 5 a.m. We also had a show where somebody from the audience was stabbed in front of us (which actually took place last Friday at Fuente Osmeña). But for me, Sinulog is about families praying together for the love of Sto. Niño.
Jojo Alejar, former member of That’s Entertainment Sarap ang street dancing. I wish I could join again (the Sinulog mardi gras) just like the good ol’ days.
Jolina Magdangal, actress, singer and TV host I never tried spending my Sinulog here but feeling ko, para na rin akong Cebuano kasi palagi akong pabalikbalik dito. In fact, I already received a certificate of recognition from the City Government as Cebu’s adopted daughter. The Sinulog concert I had last week at the Sports Complex was the first time I got a glimpse of the celebration. Actually, I have “Jolina’s Little Angels” here under the Cradle of Love Foundation in Lahug, where I pay a visit every year in honor of the Holy Child.
Dondon Hontiveros, who plays for San Miguel Beer in the PBA
What Gail (Blanco) and I miss about Sinulog is the procession the day before the Sinulog dance parade. When we were still in Cebu, we used to attend the procession with our families. We wave at the Sto Niño right before he enters the church. Mao sad ni nga time that I have a reunion with my friends, my family Gail Blanco, singer
I’m not yet sure if I’ll be able to come home, because my manager (Ronnie Henares) has lined up a series of shows for me, and I’m now also promoting my new debut album, Utos ng Puso. Actually, I really need to go home. My papa just died last Saturday due to lung problem complications. Well, life goes on… our last Sinulog together (with boyfriend, Dondon) was last year. I hope I’ll still be able to catch up and join the Cebuano community in chanting “Viva Pit Senyor!”
