Cebu boxers sweep Negros foes

CEBUANO fighters swept their Negros Occidental counterparts in the Sinulog “The Best of the Best” Amateur Boxing competition at the Gaisano Country Mall car park Friday evening.

Three-time national gold medallists Reynaldo Caitom of Cabancalan National High School and Alex John Banal of Talamban NHS, along with the other national achieving Cebuanos, scored separate wins to stomp their superiority over the other Visayas amateur boxers.

Caitom beat Marcos Ernio of Bacolod City, 3-0, in the 45-kilogram division while Banal dominated Donnie Nietes also of Bacolod, 3-0, in the 48kg division.

Two-time national gold medallist Caesar Amonsot also scored a 3-0 victory over Roselito Plomeda of Bago City in the 60kg division.

Nicolas Banal, on the other hand, had a rousing Referee Stop Contest-Outclass win over Pete Lachica of Bacolod City in 1:49 of the third round in the 48kg limit.

Robert Allanic retired Renan Salimbot of Bago City at the start of the second round in the 51kg category.

While Talamban NHS’ Reynaldo Bautista showed too much power as he scored an RSC-Head Blow (equivalent to a knockout in the pros) over Ricardo Maquilan of Bacolod City in 1:38 of the second round in the 54kg division.

Aden Nietes of UV was too classy against Reynald Mayordomo after the former pulled an RSC-O win in 1:38 of the third round in the 57kg limit.
