Region’s biggest annual travel fair scheduled to open Friday in Cebu

THE Queen City of the South will play host to the Visayas Travel and Tour Fair 2003, the biggest gathering of the best destinations around the country and abroad, on Jan. 24 to 26 at the Cebu Trade Hall of SM City Cebu.

Organized by the Cebu Travel and Tours Association (CTTA) and supported by the Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 7 and Cebu Association of Tour Operators (Cato), the three-day tourism event will feature value-plus tour packages here and abroad, according to a statement.

To support the country’s tourism banner program, Visit Philippines 2003, a number of local government units have signified their participation in the exhibit.

Destinations and festivals in the provinces like Masbate, Camarines Sur, Leyte, Bohol, Camarines Norte, La Union, Albay and the cities of Baguio and Legaspi, to name a few, are expected to draw the interest of buyers and visitors at the fair.

Some 47 percent of the participants are new exhibitors.

Among the participants are the Province of Bohol, an island close to Cebu tapped as one of the major tourist destinations in Central Visayas, and the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO).

Bohol’s hotels and resorts, like Alona Tropical and Dumaluan Resorts, Alona Palm Beach Atlantis and Bohol Tropics Resort Club, will be promoted at the fair. On the other hand, the MGTO, which recently hosted a familiarization tour among Cebu-based travel agencies, tour operators and print media, will promote a Cebu-Macau chartered flight.

Figures reveal that this year’s fair has lured more airlines, starting with the participation of Air Philippines, Malaysia Airlines, Southeast Asian Airlines (Seair Inc.), China Airlines, SilkAir, Singapore Airlines and Cebu Pacific Air.

Allied services

The fair has also drawn the participation of allied industry services like Royal Christian College, an airline management institution, PDP Digital for printing and graphic designs, United Tourist Promotions for road maps, and a number of travel and souvenir shops even from outside Cebu Province.

The one-stop travel fair, managed by L.A. Ducut and Co. Inc., is a must-see event for those on the lookout for attractive tours and holiday packages from various travel agencies and tour operators because discounts and special packages will be offered exclusively at the exhibit.

This year’s sponsors include Amadeus, SuperFerry, SM City Cebu, Sun.Star Cebu, Cebu Daily News, Islands Souvenirs and Y101.
