Z Gorres impresses Rudy Salud
By Rommel C. Manlosa

AMONG the most skillful members of the New Generation ALA Boys, the elegant approach to fighting of Z Gorres caught the eye of boxing impresario Rudy Salud.

Salud, who was among the thousands of spectators at the Gaisano Country Mall car park for last Sunday’s Sinulog Boxing at the Mall promotion, was impressed by the fighting style of Gorres.

“I was very impressed with Gorres. He gave me a glimpse of Gerry Peñalosa five years ago. I like his style and his quickness,” said Salud.

Salud is looking for new talent for his “project” to mold world-title hopeful – and make them world champions.

Gorres fought the heavier Ricky Escaner for 10 rounds, but the fight did not last half of the scheduled event as the former national amateur gold medallist ended the misery of the Valencia City pug in just 20 seconds after the opening of the fourth round.

But before the end of the fight, Gorres sent Escaner on the seat of his pants in the first round with a powerful left to the jaw. From then on the Cebuano fighter continued to tag Escaner with many hard shots before ending the bout.

Escaner tried to use some dirty tactics but Gorres eluded these by either shifting from left to right or by delivering counter blows that affected the momentum of the aggressor.

“We’ll, I’m happy Rudy saw Gorres. Gorres is a complete fighter but he lacks power. I’ll just wait for whatever Rudy may decide,” said Cebu’s foremost boxing patron Antonio Aldeguer, the handler of the ALA boys.
