17-year-old girl nabbed in drug bust By Minerva B. Gerodias
SHE came to Cebu to look for a job but ended up in jail.
The 17-year-old girl was among the three Marawi natives who were arrested by the Vice Control Section (VCS) in a buy-bust operation in SM City mall last Wednesday.
The teener said she just went with the two other suspects because she wants to see SM City.
“They said they were going shopping so I went with them because they said SM is really huge. I am innocent,” she said while crying.
She also stressed that she did not know that her companions were bringing shabu. She said she just came to know the two a few days ago.
Forced to sell
Suspects Alix Kamalig, 19, and cousin Aidah Kamalig, 18, admitted they were forced to sell shabu because they have no other means of earning a living in the city.
“We looked for work but we were not hired,” Aidah said.
The Kamaligs are natives of Sadok, Marawi City and have been staying in Gun-ob, Lapu-Lapu City for less than a month.
Seized from them were two big packs of shabu worth about P85,000.
VCS operatives, led by Senior Insp. Marvin Sanchez, transacted with the suspects and agreed to meet them at the SM City jeepney terminal where the deal was done inside the comfort room.
Alix was the one bringing the shabu but gave this to Aidah who, along with the girl, went inside the comfort room to deal with the undercover cops.
Alix tried to escape by running towards Sheraton Hotel, but was arrested in time.
PO3 Ricky Monterroyo said they were about to bring Alix to the taxi that they hired when he ran.
Alix said a certain Cardo, a neighbor in Gun-ob, owns the shabu.
They sometimes get P500 for being couriers of his drug business.
Sanchez said their market is Mandaue and Cebu cities and they get their supply from Mindanao.
They can dispose of at least 200 grams of shabu a week.
The three might not be able to post bail as under the new anti-drugs law, the selling of shabu regardless of quantity is non-bailable.
