CEBU Province topped the region’s efficiency in tax collection while Cebu City ranked only seventh among Central Visayas’ 12 cities.

Bureau of Local Government Finance (BLGF) records as of the third quarter of last year showed the Capitol collected 92 percent of its target, followed by Bohol at 79.5 percent.

Among cities, Lapu-Lapu ranked first with 125 percent, while Cebu City reported collecting 67 percent of its target, making it seventh.

According to the BLGF report, Tagbilaran City ranked second in tax efficiency followed by Danao, Talisay, Dumaguete, and Mandaue at sixth place.

Lowest in rank among the region’s cities was Toledo at 12th, having collected only 27 percent of its P33-million target.

The Cebu Provincial Government collected some P134.4 million of its P145.7-million target in September last year.

The amount is 73.77 percent of the total P182.2 million collectibles for the whole year.

The BLGF, which is under the Department of Finance, congratulated Provincial Treasurer Roy Salubre in a letter.

“(We) would again be counting on you in our plight to minimize, if not to totally eliminate the prevalent delinquencies in the treasury records by implementing remedies to collect,” wrote Renee Empaces of the BLGF 7.

Cebu Province was also awarded best in local government budget administration for the past two years.

After Cebu and Bohol, Siquijor ranked third with 67 percent, and Negros Oriental with 49.6 percent.
