Cebu resort operator aopens resto in Bohol to cash in on day tours
By Oscar C. Pineda

THE fast development of Bohol’s tourism industry has prompted a Cebu-based resort company to expand, this time, into the restaurant business.

Tambuli Resorts’ venture into the restaurant business is also part of the company’s strategy to boost its resort revenues, which remained flat last year due to the country’s weak economy, said Tambuli food and beverage director Nick Matias.

“Bohol is very promising because of its tourist attractions such as the Chocolate hills, tarsiers and other eco-tourist spots. But due to the difficult times, what has thrived in the area are the day tours wherein you arrive in Bohol at eight in the morning, and you finish touring the entire province by five in the afternoon. Our revenue for the resorts has been stagnant,” he told a press conference.

Tambuli Resorts owns the Bohol Beach Club and Sky Resort in Bohol. It is also the owner and operator of Tambuli Beach Club-East, Tambuli-West and the Cebu Beach Club, all located on Mactan Island.

Matias said Tambuli had invested P1.5 million for its Loboc Riverview restaurant located in Loboc, Bohol, which opened last September.

He said Tambuli has confidence in Bohol’s tourism industry, especially with the prospect of Bohol’s domestic airport in Panglao being realized.

Bohol Gov. Erico Aumen-tado earlier said the 272-hectare airport to be located in barangays Tawal and Bolod in Panglao would be equipped for all-weather and 24-hour operation to achieve optimum operational efficiency.

Department of Trade and Industry 7 Regional Director Aster Caberte told Sun.Star in a separate interview that the P2.614-billion project is already included in the Japan Bank for International Cooperation 25th yen loan package.

Meanwhile, Tambuli’s Matias said the restaurant was also meant to serve the needs of tourists for fine dining restaurants and rest rooms.

The restaurant complements the organized day tours, as people would have to pass by Loboc to get to Chocolate Hills aside from creating a tourist attraction out of the Loboc river.

Loboc Riverview has an open garden restaurant on the riverbank and a floating restaurant, which also offers a river cruise going to the waterfalls, Matias said.
