Bucao bails out Skygo with layup for 1-pt. win By Rommel C. Manlosa
SKYGO Motorcycle Riders survived another scary game as they shook off the effects of a shocking loss Saturday evening to take a nail-biting 68-67 victory over General Feeds Masters in the CBF 2003 Season McDonald’s President’s Cup at the Kai Sports Complex in Liloan Sunday evening.
Meanwhile, the Cebuana Lhuillier Pawnbrokers went full throttle in the third quarter as they upended newcomer Jaz Cola Kings with a 101-79 humiliation in the other game.
Diminutive guard Ronaldo Bucao stood tallest among the Riders as he delivered the game-winning lay-up that prevented the Riders from losing again.
General Feeds was ahead 67-66 with only 23 seconds left to play when Alex Cainglet committed a crucial turnover that gave the Riders last position.
Skygo tried to make a basket but General Feeds put up a very strong defensive wall as time started to put pressure on the Riders. Bucao then took matters into his own hands as he created an opening for himself amid the heavy traffic for the winning basket.
Skygo controlled the momentum of the game the entire first half with Alano Caputolan and Joseph Ronald Quiñahan dominating the shaded lane for the Riders.
The Feeds Masters came to life in the third period with Alfie Grijaldo and Johnedel Cardel teaming up for an uprising as General Feeds outscored Skygo, 17-10, in the third to close the penultimate canto behind, 52-53.
Meanwhile, Cebuana Lhuillier banked on the erratic ball handling and poor passing of Jaz Cola as the Pawnbrokers broke away in the third quarter en route to scoring a one-sided win.
After a close first two quarters of action, the Pawnbrokers changed gears in the third as they canceled the good fundamentals of the young Kings.
The combination of Braulio Lim, Richard Ian Saladaga, Jonel Jawod and Roi Lura proved to be successful for Rex Salvaña as they scored 38 points to Jaz’s17 to settle the game for good.
Jaz tried behind Miguelito Ducay, Jovy Sese, Doroteo Almacin and Rey de la Victoria but the Pawnbrokers put up just enough to parry any comeback by the Kings.
