Nutrilicious takes Shark’s place in PBL
By Rommel C. Manlosa

TOP food company Nutrilicious will take over the franchise of Shark Energy Drink in the Philippine Basketball League (PBL) after Cheese Balls-Shark team manager Jesse Chua and Nutrilicious president Rogelio Nemeño signed the memorandum of agreement yesterday.

Meanwhile, the current leadership of the PBL condoles with the family and friends of the late William “Bill” Wong, who served as team manager for Mama’s Love during its stint in the league in the late 1980s.

“We believe in the PBL’s thrust for basketball development and the success of the 2002 season further inspired us to join the league,” said Nemeño. “We’re happy that we’re now here, as we look forward to a long-term involvement with the league in pursuing its goals and programs.”

Chua is looking for a new start for the new entry as he plans to come up with a different line-up from the two-time champion Shark Energy Drink.

“We’re looking to a fresh start, but it’s going to be another winning team. We may retain some players and pick up new talented potentials – but definitely, the team will have a different character compared to Shark. All that will depend on the coach,” said Chua.

“I’m also happy that Nutrilicious is eyeing a long-term commitment with the PBL. We will soon announce a try-out for the team and choose other talents from the rookie draft,” he added.

As of yesterday, 30 aspirants have filled up the application forms for the PBL Rookie Draft for the 2003 season. The date for the deadline and the Rookie Camp will be announced later.

“The league was shocked by the untimely passing of this visionary sportsman,” said Commissioner Chino Trinidad. “Those who were around during the time. Bill was part of the board as representative of International Pharmaceuticals Inc. remember fondly his gentle nature and his support of the league’s ideals.
