Fairchild first in Visayas to get OHSAS 18001 paper By Jessica B. Natad
THE Cebu assembly plant of one of the largest global suppliers of high- performance power solutions has received the internationally recognized Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS) 18001 certification.
Fairchild Semiconductor Cebu is the first company in the Visayas to be OHSAS 18001 certified, a statement said.
Fairchild also recently achieved OHSAS compliance at its Penang, Malaysia manufacturing facility and was awarded the KOSHA 2000 certification for its Bucheon, Korea manufacturing facility. KOSHA 2000 is the Korean equivalent to OHSAS 18001.
With this latest health and safety certification, Fairchild continues to demonstrate its commitment to protecting employees and the environment. We congratulate the Cebu team and applaud their unflinching support of health, safety and environmental excellence,” said Fairchild president, chief executive officer and chairman of the board Kirk Pond.
Standards
The OHSAS 18001 certification was created through the combined work of 80 percent of the world’s leading national standards and certification bodies. Compatible with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001 for quality and ISO 14001 for environmental management systems standards, OHSAS is designed to minimize risks of accidents and near-miss incidents that employees and other parties may encounter while participating in work-related activities.
The OHSAS certification indicates that a company’s health and safety management system has been audited by an accredited third party registrar and has been found to conform to required specifications.
Certifications
Fairchild Cebu has also been awarded the ISO 14001, ISO 9001 and QS 9000 certifications.
Fairchild Semiconductor is a leading global supplier of high-performance products for multiple-end markets. Fairchild’s components are used in computing, communications, consumer, industrial and automotive applications.
