THE Municipality of Carmen and the Government of Lapu-Lapu City, have signed a memorandum of agreement with the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (Philhealth) Regional Office 7 for the Medicare para sa Masa Program, a free health insurance package aimed at indigents.

During the celebration of Philhealth’s 8th anniversary at the Cebu City Marriott Hotel, Philhealth Assistant Vice President William Chavez announced that Lapu-Lapu had received P974,000 from Philhealth as payment for the outpatient package services for the 6,500 indigent families enrolled in the Medicare sa Masa Program, while Carmen will receive medical benefits for its pledge to enroll its indigent residents.

Implementors

Special Outpatient Package implementors in Lapu-Lapu, such as the The Lapu-Lapu Health Center, Pajo Health Center and Maribago Health Center, provide chest X-ray examinations, complete blood count, urinalysis, fecalysis, sputum microscopy and primary consultation to more than 8,000 listed indigent families.

Beneficiaries of the free insurance in Carmen would also receive hospitalization benefits such as room and board, drugs and medicines, X-ray, laboratory and operating room fees, physician’s professional fees, and other outpatient benefits such as chemotherapy, hemodialysis, radiotherapy, cataract extraction and minor surgical procedures.

As of the moment, there are almost 60 local government units in the Region 7 that have signed an agreement with Philhealth for this Medicare para sa Masa Program. Twelve of these are from Cebu, 33 from Bohol, 10 in Negros Oriental and four from Siquijor.

Chavez also reported that Philhealth had cut in half the processing time for claims for medical assistance bills to 30 days from the former 60 days.
